Britney Spears in Vogue

Although it is hard to imagine now, on the Friday before the World Trade Center was attacked, nearly identical photographs of Britney Spears landed on the front pages of both New York tabloids. There was no real news to go with the pictures, because that was not their point. Sometime in the last year or two, Britney seems to have crossed over from teen pinup girl to pop icon; the mere fact of her being in town and onstage and half naked was reason enough for the editors of the Post and the Daily News to draw her to our attention.
